Delphi nurse Andrea Rigby volunteers in Peru
Date Posted - 23rd September 2013
We've had a brief email from our nurse, Andrea Rigby, who is currently in Peru working as a volunteer with street children in Peru. She sent the following;
"I arrived Cuzco, Peru on sat morning then spent three days really ill with altitude sickness :(
Been OK since Monday though, lots of other volunteers here too, 18 boys in one orphanage and 11 girls in the other, they’re amazing... couple have run back away to live on streets again, so just the 29 here at the moment. I’ve sorted the clinic room out now and from 3pm today I'm doing the health checks on the boys for two days, then Saturday and Sunday. I’m starting my travel week...I go to Machu Picchu and Sacred Valley first, then I’m going into the amazon jungle for few days!!!! Sooooo excited!
I’m going to zip wire through the jungle, swim with piranhas, kayak in the Amazon, night walk deeper into it to catch other animals at night, monkey island, parrot hiding placer, giant otter things...allsorts! ….then back next sat to do the girls health stuff... the people are wonderful, the kids are respectful and a credit to the orphanage guys who take them in off the streets...they are just amazing all round...Peru is beautiful, Cuzco is breath taking, wonderful architecture and culture...I’ve nipped into an internet cafe because phones bit dodgy and cant access internet on phone so just having quick catch up before lunch!
Please pass this on and let everyone know how it is here for me...I’m having the adventure of a lifetime and making a difference to quite a few little lives... big smiles are all worth it! : )))
I’ll update when I’m back from the jungle!!!
We've asked Andrea to take lot's of pictures and we'll update with details when she returns. Really exciting to hear of this great work.
