Delphi Medical has teamed up with Patients Know Best to become the first provider of substance misuse services in the UK to put patients in control of their own medical records.
One of the UK’s largest independent providers of clinical services for substance misuse, Delphi Medical is set to offer Patients Know Best to new and existing patients from August 2014.
Working like a highly secure version of Facebook, Patients Know Best is an online medical records system which enables the patient to grant online access to their health records – ensuring everyone involved in a patient’s care has an accurate view of their health history.
Dr John Richmond, managing director of Delphi Medical said: “A patient recovering from a drug or alcohol addiction receives very fragmented care because none of the agencies dealing with them can access a single version of that person’s medical record. This can lead to poor communication and a lack of trust all round. However, putting the patient in control of their records solves this challenge at the click of a mouse. We hope that our partnership with Patients Know Best will be a powerful means to improve patient care and aid recovery amongst our patients.”
Employing over 60 doctors, nurses, and supporting staff, Delphi Medical provides drug and alcohol clinical services to communities across Lancashire, Sefton and to eleven prisons in the Midlands and North West of England.

In the future, Delphi Medical plans to tailor their Patients Know Best platform to enable them to load up training material and video podcasts which will ensure that patients can quickly and easily understand why doctors are recommending certain treatment plans and courses of action.
